Washington, D.C. – Former U.S. Congressman Jack Fields was today honored for his leadership and outstanding public service to the community of Kingwood, Texas and the United States of America at a ceremony designating the United States Post Office at 4025 Feather Lakes Way in Kingwood as the "Congressman Jack Fields Post Office".

Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) authored the bill, H.R. 4232, signed into law by President George W. Bush renaming the Kingwood Post Office in Field's honor.

"I have always been extremely proud to hold the seat the Jack Fields represented for sixteen years with such integrity and distinction," said Brady "Jack is a brilliant statesman who was recognized nationally as a champion for veterans, for small business, for the Second Amendment and for family values – value's he lives each and every day of his life."

"Jack Fields helped change America, and the Humble-Kingwood area continues to be very proud of their homegrown hero. Renaming the Kingwood Post Office in the heart of the community he now lives in is a fitting tribute to his dedication and love of public service," Brady continued.

Congressman Jack Fields represented the Eighth Congressional District from 1981 until he decided to retire in 1997 in order to spend more time with his wife, Lynn, daughters Jordan and Lexi, and stepson Josh Hughes. In the latter part of his Congressional career Congressman Jack Fields served as the influential chairman of the House Commerce Committee's Telecommunications and Finance Subcommittee, and as vice chairman of the Committee's Commerce, Trade and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee.

As subcommittee chairman in 1995, he led the effort in the House to enact the first comprehensive reform of the Communications Act of 1934 in more than six decades. This measure promoted greater competition in all telecommunications-related industries

Congress passed the legislation and President Clinton signed it into law in February 1996.

Congressman Fields also used his position as subcommittee chairman to ensure the passage of the National Securities Markets Improvement Act of 1996, which protects investors while also promoting greater efficiency and capital formation in the financial markets. He also played a critical role in passing the Securities Litigation Reform Act that reforms the federal civil justice system regarding private securities litigation.

Since entering private life, Congressman Fields founded the Twenty-First Century Group, Inc., a Washington, DC-based governmental affairs firm. He also sits on the Board of Directors of AIM Mutual Funds, the eighth largest mutual fund company in the United States, and Adminstaff (NYSE: ASF), a premier professional employer organization with clients nationwide. Additionally, Fields serves as a board member of the Discovery Channel Global Education Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational resources to people in need around the world through the use of technology.
